London Stadium is set to become one of the world’s greenest sports and entertainment venues with the installation of 6,500 square meters of cutting-edge solar membrane panels. This transformative project, funded through the £4.35 million LLDC Solar Membrane Project under the Mayor of London’s £500m Green Finance Fund, is a key step toward decarbonizing the venue and achieving London’s Net Zero goals. This innovation will reduce carbon emissions by over 200 tonnes each year— the equivalent of 100 flights between London and New York.
This project forms part of a broader sustainability strategy at London Stadium, incorporating energy-saving initiatives like LED lighting upgrades, advanced air-handling systems, and plant-based menu options.
