Chris Mann has been specially selected by the Head Judge (Rod Bowker) to be an expert judge for the Matchday Hospitality Awards. This judge has been chosen based upon their extensive knowledge and involvement in both the chef and hospitality industries, with over 40 years extensive experience and a passion for driving up standards. Biography

Chris Mann has been involved in the hospitality industry for over 50 years.

After studying at Monkwearmouth College, Sunderland from 1968-1970, Chris joined Trust House Forte employed by the company until 1983. Starting as a commis chef Chris rose to the position of head chef, working in a variety of establishments which included prestigious country house hotels and large conference hotels.

This experience was invaluable when Chris began teaching in further education. At Hull College he was employed for 7 years, starting as a Lecturer 1 and progressing to Senior Lecturer. During this time he was instrumental in coordinating an innovative scheme allowing students to takeover and run a local 4 star hotel, he also took advantage of his many contacts in the industry to arrange valuable student placements.

Chris transferred to Kirby College, Middlesbrough, in 1989-2011, starting as a Senior Lecturer, progressing to Head of Service Industries and then Assistant Principal. During this time he catered for a royal visit, arranged overseas placements, was a judge for the regional finals of BBC Master Chef, created a junior chef programme, headed the team for internal assessing and verification and led the Catering and Hospitality team as they achieved Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status and Training Quality Standard (TQS) for employer responsiveness. 

Retiring from full time work Chris continued part time work for 4 years, working with Darlington College and North Yorkshire Adult Learning Services, this role included working with young people and students in placements and assisting their transition out of full-time education and into the workplace.

Chris is now enjoying a busy retirement, spending time with his wife, his daughters and their families. His hobbies include travelling, walking, gardening and eating out.
