Let the game be-gin – that is the message at Brighton’s Amex Stadium, where VIP guests can now toast the team with a range of unique cocktails.
The stadium’s catering and events partner, Sodexo, has teamed up with award-winning distillery Brighton Gin to create four, gin-based drinks, each inspired by Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, known to fans as the Seagulls.
Served to match day diners in the stadium’s Mullery’s, HB’s and Goldstone restaurants, the range comprises The Albion (Home), The Albion (Away), Royal Blood and The Sussex 75.
The Albion Home echoes the team’s famous blue strip with the addition of blue curacao, lime juice, sugar syrup and rock salt, while the Away cocktail pays tribute to the team’s yellow/gold away strip with Brighton gin, dry white vermouth, Galliano, triple sec and mango and lime juices.
Royal Blood is a twist on the classic Bloody Mary, with Brighton Gin instead of vodka, mixed with tomato, lemon and orange juices, fino sherry, Worcestershire sauce, tabasco and celery salt, while The Sussex 75 is a variation on the classic French 75 invented in 1915 by Harry MacElhone at the New York Bar, Paris. Instead of Champagne, it features locally produced Ridgeview sparkling wine along with St Germain elderflower liqueur lemon juice and sugar syrup.
Formed in 2014 by four Seagulls fans, Brighton Gin has since won numerous awards and Sodexo hospitality and events manager, Doris Loncarevic, said the cocktails are a great addition to the drinks menu.
“Football is about so much more than the score, it’s about bringing people together and having a great day out,” she said, “and these cocktails not only taste gorgeous, but they are a celebration of great, locally-produced gin.
“As a company, Sodexo is passionate about supporting regional food and drink producers and here at Brighton we are incredibly fortunate to have such a highly regarded distiller right on our doorstep,” she added.
“And the Brighton Gin team are all Seagulls fans, so we’re happy to drink to that.”
